The Icelandic artists

Amiina

18th May
Hotel Pelirocco at 4pm
Amína are an all-female quartet that make fascinating music with a variety of instruments. They have toured with Sigur Rós both as a support act as well as their string section and have recently released their dream-like debut album, Kurr.

Hafdis Huld

17th May
Komedia (Downstairs), Time TBC
Hafdis Huld started singing with GusGus when she was just 15 years old. After leaving the band she started writing her own songs and collaborating with the likes of FC Kahuna, Ewan Pearson and Tom Middleton. Her album Dirty Paper Cup is fresh, funny, odd, seductive, Icelandic - and above all, great pop music.

Jakobinarina

17th May Music Week Stage, The Beach at 8.30pm1
8th May Fly Stage, Audio at 8.30pm
Aged between 15 – 19 years old, the six members of Jakobinarina capture the sheer thwarted energy of being a mannish boy with vim, vigour and sheer gusto. Their current single, “Jesus”/”Filipino Girl” follows up on their Rough Trade EP last year.

Lay Low

Thursday 17 May, Hope at 8.30pm
Friday 18 May, Mojo stage, Pavillion Theatre at 8.15pm
Combining kooky northern charm with smoky barroom blues, Lay Low has taken the Icelandic music scene by storm. Her debut album Please Don´t Hate Me has been topping the Icelandic charts since its release in October 2006 and Lay Low received more nominations than any other musician at the 2006 Icelandic Music Awards: she eventually went home with three of the coveted trophies. The track "Mojo Love" was featured in "Grey´s Anatomy" on May 3rd in the US, where Lay Low will head to on May 27 to perform showcases in Los Angeles and New York.

Seabear

Sat 19th May Duke Of York Picturehouse 10pm 1.30am (Iceland Airwaves Stage)
23-year old Sindri Sigfoesson crafts sparkling melodies from a gentle displacement of acoustic guitar and piano, synth flourishes and restrained percussion. Now a trio, Seabear’s music has been transformed into subdued and mellow folk pop with a little piano and atmospheric vocals. They are currently working on their first album.

Storsveit Nix Noltes
